    • Richard Travis Berglund, who escaped from a jail work crew assignment at the county fairgrounds a year ago, pleaded guilty to a reduced charge last week
    • Alfred Laggner, a health-care provider accused of causing two patients to have sexual contact with him, is scheduled to go to trial starting Jan. 20

    • Public information workshop will be held at WWCC water and environmental center on Tuesday at 6 p.m. to discuss update of critical areas ordinances
    • Walla Walla children form organization to send stuffed animals to victims of the Sichuan Province earthquake in May
    • VA Regional network Director Max Lewis told employees that no further cutbacks are slated for Walla Walla but veteran’s advocate Ron Fry is convinced there are plans to shut down the local medical center
    • Read Sunday’s story about options to deal with the city’s budget shortfall which include the closure of the Pioneer Park Aviary
    • Milton-Freewater will hold a concil meeting today to discuss a proposal for the city to provide $70-100 thousand dollars annually to help pay for ambulance service

    • Summer Daze held at Garrison Middle School was a success and organizers hope to do it again next summer
    • Penitentiary employees rounded upĀ  school supplies and delivered them to the Walla Walla School District office
    • Octavio Meza entered guilty pleas and was sentenced to 300 days for robbing and assaulting Manuel Ponce in February
    • Supporters lined Main StreetĀ  Monday to cheer 35 members of the National Guard as their bus passed through downtown on their way to deployment to Iraq
